Had a couple of hours to kill the other Sunday, so I went for a walk round Marsden Bay in South Shields. It's a great place to look at some geology, ornithology, lots of 'ology's' LOL
Thought I'd share some piccys (btw, apologies for the photo quality, they were all taken on my phone!).........

It's a great place to look at the strata in the cliffs....

This is a stack called 'Lot's Wife'........

Presuming these are ancient mollusc shells making up part of the cliff structure..........

The Marsden Grotto pub, with it's lift from the top of the cliff...........

Thousands of nesting Kittewake's..........

Marsden Rock itself. It used to have a similar stack to 'Lot's Wife' joined to it, but bad weather and erosion led to its collapse in 1996.

Views from the pub.........

Approximately 150 steps up the cliff face.......

Like the image on the right hand side of this information board, showing a choral service on the top of Marsden Rock in 1903. There used to be a set of steps to the top.

The Leas. A fantastic grassy stretch which runs for miles along the coast from South Shields to Whitburn, looked after by the National Trust. The Great North Run finishes on the Leas.....

Thought I'd stick this one on the end. The small picture at the bottom shows how I remember Marsden Rock as a kid, until the stack disappeared......

Thanks for looking.

The three of us took a little trip here yesterday and what a great place it is to visit.  We had a bit of an explore round, had a drink in the Grotto, took the lift down etc, I love places like that.

Afterwards we went for a look at Penshaw Monument which is a fantastic structure.  I wish the secret door to the upper level was open like.
